21st Century Insurance Data Breach

On May 05, 2021, 21st Century Insurance reported to the California State Attorney General’s office that its online automobile quoting system tool was infiltrated by a malicious party in an attempt to access individuals’ personal data.
According to the data breach notification, the incident occurred between January 20, 2021, and February 12, 2021. 21st Century Insurance states that their system was accessed using personal information such as your name, address and/or date of birth to gain unauthorized access to your driver’s license number via 21 Century’s quoting system tool.
According to 21st Century Insurance, they are still investigating to determine how this incident occurred.
WHAT INFORMATION MAY HAVE BEEN INCLUDED?
- Driver’s license numbers
- First and last names
- Mailing addresses
- Dates of birth
Delaware-based 21st Century Insurance became a part of Farmers Insurance in July 2009. 21st Century Insurance offers personal auto insurance to consumers throughout the United States.
Although the breach notification does not indicate how many people were affected, 21st Century Insurance states that some individuals who submitted real quote requests between January 20, 2021, and February 12, 2021, may also receive a notice of data breach.
21st Century Insurance is a member of Farmers Insurance, which serves an estimated 10 million households with more than 19 million individual policies across all 50 states. They have a network of over 48,000 exclusive and independent agents and an estimated 21,000 employees.
The Arnold Law Firm is currently investigating the 21st Century Insurance data breach and will continue to provide updates regarding the incident.
