5.11, Inc. Data Breach

On October 3, 2024, 5.11, Inc. (“5.11”) reported a cybersecurity incident (“Data Breach”) to the Attorneys General of Maine and California. 5.11 reported that in August 2024 it discovered suspicious activity on its computer network. A subsequent investigation found that between July 12, and August 22, 2024, an unauthorized user had accessed and viewed payment card information of customers who had purchased products through 5.11’s online store.

On or about October 3, 2024, 5.11 began sending out data breach notification letters to those affected by the Data Breach. Each notification letter includes complimentary access to credit restoration assistance through IDX.

According to 5.11’s report, approximately 27,742 individuals were impacted by the Data Breach. 5.11 identified that the compromised data was related to payment card information of its customers. If you received a data breach notification letter from 5.11, it indicates that you were affected by the Data Breach.

Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Irvine, California, 5.11 is an apparel brand for outdoor clothing, footwear, and tactical equipment. 5.11 has 6 corporate offices in the United States and abroad, including in Mexico, Sweden, Dubai, Australia, and Hong Kong. 5.11 employs more than 500 individuals and generates approximately $300 million in annual revenue.

WHAT INFORMATION IS INVOLVED?

According to 5.11’s report to the Maine Attorney General, the type of compromised information included:

  • Full Names
  • Email Addresses
  • Payment Card Data
    • Payment Card Numbers
    • Expiration Dates
    • Security Codes

This information is referred to as your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). It provides critical details about you and is an integral part of your identity. Businesses are legally required to protect this information, or they risk incurring statutory penalties and other legal repercussions. When PII is stolen, it can be used by identity thieves to commit fraudulent activities using your identity.

The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for credit and identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”).
