Plaintiff Alex Pygin of California filed a class action lawsuit accusing Bombas, LLC, Shopify, Inc., and Shopify (USA), Inc. for failing to safeguard the sensitive personal data of Mr. Pygin and thousands of other customers who placed online orders from November 11, 2016 and February 16, 2017.
Allegedly, malicious code on the retailer’s e-commerce platform provided by Shopify scraped payment card data and other personal information as customers purchased product online. Customers were not notified of the cybersecurity incident until June 3, 2020.
The plaintiff is represented by M. Anderson Berry and Leslie Guillon of Clayeo C. Arnold, A Professional Law Corp. and Jean Martin, and John A. Yanchunis of Morgan & Morgan Complex Litigation Group. The case was filed on July 1, 2020 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Oakland Division.
