On February 12, 2022, Chelan Douglas Health District (“CDHD”), discovered that between July 2, 2021 and July 4, 2021 an unauthorized third party accessed their network and removed private personally identifiable information of affected residents.
The Chelan Douglas Health District is a state government agency which handles Vital Statistics and Services including the issuance of Birth and Death Certificates, promoting health, and working to prevent disease and injury in Chelan and Douglas Counties. In total, the data of 108,906 residents of Chelan and Douglas Counties was compromised in the breach. If you received a data breach incident letter from CDHD, you were impacted by the breach.
According to CDHD, the following information was exposed:
This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Government agencies are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.
CDHD is offering 12 months of free identity protection and credit monitoring services. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for credit and identity protection services as soon as possible.
